Dear Parents,

The Texas Education Agency is requiring schools to transition to “all-day” Pre-K.  Alba-Golden ISD is in the process of making that transition which could limit the number of seats we have available for our Pre-K classes this year.  To combat that, we have been approved for a waiver that would allow us to operate one Pre-K teacher at “half-day” and one teacher at the required full day.  This is a possible contingency plan depending on the number of eligible students that enroll.

To be eligible for the free Pre-Kindergarten program, your child must be 4 years of age by Sept. 1 and meet an eligibility requirement as required by Texas law: 

-The child is unable to speak and comprehend the English language and are Limited English Proficiency (LEP) students.

- The child is educationally (economically) disadvantaged: Eligible to participate in the National Free or Reduced-Price Lunch Program based on family income. 

-The child is homeless, as defined by 42 U.S.C. Section 11302.

-The child has a parent or official guardian that is an active duty member of the Armed Forces of the United States

-The child has a parent or official guardian that is a member of the Armed Forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserved component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty. 

-The child has ever been in the conservatorship (foster care) of the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), as well as children in a conservatorship as a result of an adversary hearing. This includes children returned to home, kinship placement, and/or adoptions. 

We are taking these measures to stay in compliance with the state. If your child does not meet the above requirements, feel free to register them, he/she may be accepted on a first come-first serve basis after all eligible students have been enrolled and if space allows.  Beginning May 11th, Pre-K/Kindergarten registration will be moving online.  The link will be available on AGISD’s website on May 11th.  In order to complete enrollment, please bring the following items to the elementary office: 1. Certified Birth Certificate  2. Updated Immunization Record 3. Proof of Residence (property tax statement or utility bill - water, electric, or gas)  4. Social Security Card  5. Parent/Guardian Identification 6. Any court/custody documents (if applicable)  7. Any pertinent health documents: seizure plans, emergency needs, etc. (if applicable). 8. Proof of Income (one month’s worth of paystubs, number of people in household) (Pre-K only)
