According to Governor Abbott’s declaration this morning, there will be no more “in classroom education” this year. For now, we will continue online learning through next Friday, May 1st, and we expect an announcement by TEA to come next week which will give more details.

Most recent updates for our families: As you know, Wood County has now issued a shelter in place. This is going to create some changes for us. 1. Beginning next week, the school building and facilities will be closed. This means that we will no longer be sending out paper packets from teachers. We encourage all parents to pick up packets from 1:00 - 8:00 pm THIS FRIDAY. 2. Meals will no longer be delivered every day. Instead, they will be delivered (by bus only) each Monday and Wednesday. Deliveries will begin at noon. Though the buildings will be closed, school is still in session. We are all (school and home) doing our best to keep learning in progress. We thank you for the part that you are playing at home!!! As a way to help you, we have added a new link on our agisd.com website that is called Panther Connect. Panther Connect is the name we have chosen for our virtual school until this time passes. Parents, students, and community of Alba-Golden, Today marks the end of the extended break and next week begins our online/home learning classes with both Elementary and Secondary. Throughout this week, teachers have been working to upload assignments into their Google Classrooms and also creating packets for those without internet. We know there has been an overload of information this week, but we are doing the best we can to keep you informed of changes that are happening day by day. Our goal for this online learning experience and “home school” is not to overwhelm either the parents nor the students but to try to continue in as normal of a routine as possible. We know some students have started working on their assignments this week while others have decided to use this time to spend with their families. We highly encourage you to begin next week and consider your attendance to your packets or online to be of the same importance as you attending school everyday. Our assignments this week were to get everyone ready and acclimated to this different style of learning. Parents, thank you for your patience and your effort to partner with us to keep your child/children educated during this unprecedented time. Please make sure your children have logged into their Classroom account or that the school has been notified they need packets sent home. Please do not hesitate to email your teachers or administrators with any questions. We are in this together!
Meals have successfully been delivered the last two days, and it has been a blessing seeing sweet, smiling faces! This one thing we must ask for your help on: school representatives who are making the deliveries must see the children whom they are delivering to before meals can be dropped off. In the day of social media where things spread like wildfire, and school posts are shared 97 times and viewed by 3500 in the matter of a few hours, it’s terrible to get your facts wrong! But... that’s what we’ve done! We need to give a correction to the update that went out today: We are officially announcing closure through Friday, April 3rd, with school to resume on Monday, April 6th. If the need arises to delay further, another three week period would be likely. All other facts are still accurate. We just got the ending date incorrect. Again, school closure is officially announced through Friday, April 3rd. We apologize for the error!
Google Classroom Update for the Secondary Campus Parents and Secondary Students: This has definitely been a different, and somewhat challenging, week in education. We thank you for your patience as teachers have been working to set up or expand their use of Google Classroom in order to still provide you with the best education possible under the circumstances.. Teachers are still working to get assignments pushed out. Here are a few reminders and tips to help this go more smoothly for all involved: 1) Take a deep breath!!! This is not an ideal situation, but like we have told the teachers: relax, make the most of it, and even have some fun trying out new things. 2) If you (the student) are not already enrolled in your classes, here is the link to your Google Classroom codes: https://www.agisd.com/o/alba-golden/page/elearning--16 (This is on the main www.agisd.com website, under Menu (top right), Resources, eLearning). 3) You MUST use your school student email account in order to log in to the Google app. This includes Drive, Email, Classroom, Docs, Slides, etc. If you need assistance with Google Classroom (or anything Google related), here is a good resource: https://tinyurl.com/qpnbucv 4) Teachers are putting out short and simple assignments this week to make sure everyone is getting logged on. Should this time out of school be extended, you will be required to do more work online. Should we be allowed to return to school, you have now learned a new skill that will become more useful in the future! 5) All Google Apps are available for free download for tablets and smart phones. You do not need a computer (although we admit it is best for some work). Some teachers will also utilize Apps such as IXL and Study Island. These are also free and used on tablets and smart phones. We have also learned that those students who have gaming consoles that are connected for online gaming are also able to be used for getting on the web to access your Classrooms. 6) Be sure you are on Remind for each teacher you have. The teacher is always the first contact for any questions about assignments and how the class operates. Please use Remind and Email as they are working from home and are available to help. 7) We understand there are those who do not have access to the internet at home. We are working on other solutions for this as well. Some ideas that you could try include: call local internet providers. Some have started providing free internet usage during this time. We are not sure if any are in this area yet but it’s worth a shot at trying to find out. Also, be sure to stay in touch with your teacher. Several teachers will have creative solutions to do assignments similar to the ones they put online or they can send you the actual questions through Remind. If you are working with the teacher, they will work with you as well! 8) Our office staff is available to help with ANY question. Please do not hesitate to ask as we cannot help if we don’t know you need it. We know most parents have not dealt with Google Classroom before. We have had extensive training on it and would love to answer any questions. Alba Golden ISD will provide breakfast and lunch opportunities for all students starting March 17th and continuing Monday thru Friday until the district resumes onsite classes. We will run regular bus route services to deliver the meals to individual students. The buses will leave the school at 10:00. There will be drive-thru services available at the school between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm for those that want to pick up here. The meal will consist of a breakfast and lunch meal in one package. This is new territory for all of us and working together we can make this happen.
I have been closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID- 19) and been in contact with local and state health authorities, the Commissioner of Education, and other school districts. At this time, due to concerns for the health and safety of our AGISD Family - students, staff, and community, Alba- Golden and the other Wood County schools will extend Spring Break one week. This will allow us to further assess all student and staff travel. I understand this decision will directly impact everyone in our school community, and I thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. Beginning Monday, March 16th, no extracurricular or UIL activities will take place until further notice. As decisions are made concerning the return to school the information will be made available as soon as possible. Updates will be posted on the school website. The Houston Livestock Show has been cancelled out of caution to prevent the spread of the CoronaVirus. AGISD students who were participating in the show had waited outside of the grounds all night before checking in yesterday morning. After they checked in, they discovered that the show was cancelled. Our agriculture staff who was with the students on site immediately reloaded the vehicles and started the return trip home yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, March 11, 2020. At this time, there is no action to be taken by Alba-Golden ISD. If any further information comes forward or direction by state is obtained, I will update both the school website and the Facebook page. We have updated a few times this year about the Kindergarten garden. Thought you may enjoy these pictures of the 2nd grade class pets enjoying the "fruits" of the Kinder class project. Also, a big thank you from the Kindergarten teachers to those who donated mulch and time to the recent workday and mulch drive. Over 100 bags of mulch were spread. We are grateful for the community's support in our learning environment!
We would like to remind parents/guardians that the school is available for student drop-off at 7:00am each school day. Please do not drop off your children before 7:00am, as we do not have staff in place to oversee them before that time. Thank you for your cooperation.

Special Notice: Tonight's school board meeting will begin at 6:00pm. The dinner that was scheduled at 6:00 has been postponed due to illness.
Due to the threat of severe weather, Alba-Golden ISD will be releasing school at 2:00 pm. Buses will run at 2:00 pm; however, for safety, students will NOT be released from the bus if a parent or guardian is NOT at home. If a parent is not at home, students will be returned to their respective campuses and may be picked up in the front office.
An update regarding today's weather: We are watching the weather very closely. Should storms come in sooner than expected, it is possible that a decision will be made for early dismissal. However, at the present time, we plan on staying on regular schedule.
Due to the increase of traffic on campus today and tomorrow, the secondary campus will be on Code Orange. Code Orange states, "Heightened alert that requires supervision in between classes and at lunch. Doors will be closed and locked during time of instruction."
