The Alba-Golden Lady Panthers softball team continued their solid play last Monday at home as they earned an 8-6 victory over the Edgewood Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Panthers built a 7-2 lead after four innings before Edgewood came storming back in the final two innings, however the Lady Panthers had just enough offense to pull out the win.
The Lady Panthers’ offense started hot scoring two runs in the first inning, however Edgewood responded in the second frame to tie the game.
At the start of the third inning Bralee Littlejohn caught a rhythm as she and the A-G defense held Edgewood scoreless through the fifth inning.
Simultaneously the A-G offense got back on track as they scored two runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth giving them their 7-2 lead. Both teams traded one-run innings in the sixth leaving the score to 8-3.
In the final inning Edgewood scored three runs but couldn’t get the two extra runs needed as A-G took the victory.
Littlejohn was effective on the mound and behind the plate against Edgewood as she pitched all seven innings while striking out seven, throwing 27 first-pitch strikes. She also had a game-high three hits as well. Linsey Roberts also had a solid game earning two walks, while Laynie Culp had a game-high three RBI.
The Lady Panthers return to action Friday as they travel to face the Lady Bulldogs from Quitman. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
