A-G’s Shelby Wright named 12-3A MVP

Shelby Wright was the unanimous pick as the Most Valuable Player in District 12-3A this season.

With Shelby Wright leading the way as the District 12-3A unanimous choice Most Valuable Player, the Alba-Golden Lady Panthers dominated the league’s All-District selections with five first team picks and a second team pick.

Joining Wright making the first team roster for the Lady Panthers, are senior Gracie Pendergrass, sophomore Grace Bizzell, senior Briana Weissert, and sophomore Ashlyn Rogers. Selected to the second team from Alba-Golden was junior Kenzie Chadwick.

This group of girls and their teammates led Coach Blake Hamrick’s team to an undefeated 14-0 record in district play and a 29-8 season record, which saw the Lady Panthers advance all the way to the Region II semifinals.

Mineola’s Lady Yellowjackets placed Brianna McCalla on the first team, Jessiah Riley and Lauren Almuete on the second team as well as having Sabria Dean selected as the District 12-3A Newcomer of the Year. Receiving honorable mention was Cyndi Butler.

After Alba-Golden’s six selections on the two all-district squads came Eustace, Grand Saline, and Scurry-Rosser with five picks each.

Quitman was represented by senior Brittany Walls and junior Molly Tanner who made the second team. Named honorable mention were Shelby Smith, Macy Wilson, Kaci Raley and Abby Dobbs.

Grand Saline placed Caitlyn Amaya, Kenzie Gardner and Brooklyn Bolin on the first team while teammates Sarah Elliott and Payton Stanley earned Second Team honors.

The league’s Defensive Player of the Year was Eustace’s Sydnee Wynn, who was joined on the first team by teammate Zoie Bailey. Second team picks for Eustace were Miranda Fontenot, Madison Holbert and Lily Sorrells.

District 12-3A Offensive Player of the Year was Scurry-Rosser’s Kelsi Jones, joined on the first team by teammates Autumn Jasien and Brianna Archer. Katy Taliaferro and Mykayla Zabonik were second team for Scurry-Rosser.

Edgewood placed Nicole Neal on the first team and the duo of Tabitha Parker and Katy Pool on the second team. Edgewood’s Kenzie Smith was picked Freshman Player of the Year.

Kemp landed two spots on the second team with Alicia Dennis and Mercedes Zapien.
