2011-2012 Dress and Grooming Code
Alba-Golden I.S.D. has a goal for all students to
demonstrate good grooming and pride in appearance. To insure success, as a student, dress should
not distract from learning, attract undue attention, or be exotic in nature. The collaborative efforts of the Site Based
Decision Making Committee, in conjunction with the following guidelines will
assist us in establishing a positive learning environment.
THIS DRESS CODE IS
APPLICABLE AT ALL SHOOL FUNCTIONS WHETHER AT OUR CAMPUS OR AWAY:
All Students:
·
Are to dress in a safe, neat and respectable
fashion.
·
Are to wear shirts and blouses that are long
enough to cover the midriff area of the body.
·
Are to wear shorts, skirts and dresses that must
reach the kneecap when the student is standing.
·
Are to button primary shirts and blouses from
the first button below the collar downward (girls must have cleavage covered-no
low cut blouses).
·
Are to wear proper undergarments which are never
visible.
·
Are to keep hair neatly groomed.
·
Are to wear shoestrings when shoes are so
designed: Shoe strings will be laced up so shoe constitutes regular fit and
use. Must wear appropriate shoes (No cleats, boots, metal taps, steel-toed
boots, no flip-flops, thongs or house-shoes. ALL SANDALS MUST HAVE A HEEL STRAP)
SPECIFICALLY PROHIBITED ARE:
·
Extremely tight fitting shorts or skirts, skinny
jeans or those deemed inappropriate by the principal.
·
Tank tops and tube tops.
·
Hip-Huggers, no "low-rides" "skinny" jeans or
those deemed inappropriate by the principal.
·
Athletic shorts sweat pants and wind pants that
do not constitute a regular fit inside an academic building.
·
Articles of clothing advertising alcoholic
beverages, drugs, etc.
·
Articles of clothing with "off color" or rude
slogans, double entendres, or pictures, of persons dressed in a manner not
consistent with good taste outlined in this policy.
·
No skulls or what resembles skulls on clothing
or personal items, including backpacks, book covers etc.
·
No bands that represent this type of dress.
·
No clothing that is related to occult/gothic in
nature. This includes any attempt to
align that type of dress with any school organization. This type of apparel is very negative and
counter-productive to the positive environment we try to provide at
Alba-Golden. Examples of some of the symbols that will not be allowed are as
follow, but not limited to: pentagrams, the anarchy symbol, skull, etc.)
·
Sleeveless shirts or blouses.
·
Caps, cowboy hats, headbands, bandana, sweat
bands ARE NOT ALLOWED ON CAMPUS AND SHOULD BE LEFT HOME.
·
No knots in back of shirts. Shirts should be
worn regular.
·
Skirts, culottes, dresses that do NOT reach the
kneecap when a student is standing.
·
Jewelry: No ear adornments by male students.
Jewelry is not encouraged due to accessibility to theft. Jewelry that is
excessive will not be allowed. (I.e. chains worn at the waist or necklace,
jewelry that is distractive. NO SPIKES or ball necklaces.) Watches are proper
for school.
·
Beards, mustaches, goatees, or sideburns below
the ear lobe.
·
Make-up that is excessive or distracts from the
learning environment.
·
Shirts that are worn as jackets cannot be
excessively big and sloppy.
·
Excessively loose clothing that results in
"sagging".
·
Pants that are excessively long and drag the
ground.
·
Symbols (including tattoos) on one’s person,
clothing or jewelry that is offensive in nature and/or which causes distraction
or undue attention.
·
Racially related symbols, emblems, pictures,
words, slogans.
·
Exposed tattoos.
·
Dark glasses (unless prescribed by a physician)
inside the academic buildings.
·
Any accessory or clothing article deemed
gang-related as determined by the school administration.
·
Any jeans/pants/trousers that do not constitute
a regular fit or are improperly fitted.
Clothes are not to be worn in a manner that exposes undergarments. Waistbands are to be worn at the waist.
·
Jeans/Pants will not have holes, tears and or be
tattered - where holes are in the worn-out parts of the jeans.
·
Body piercing:
The fad of body piercing is distracting and therefore prohibited (i.e.;
tongue spikes, eyebrow piercing, lip piercing, nose piercing or any visible
part of the body);
·
Any un-hemmed garments.
·
Pajamas of any kind.
·
Heelies.
VIOLATIONS WILL BE VIEWED AS PURPOSELY DISRESPECTING AND DISREGARDING
TO THE SCHOOL POLICY AND WILL BE REFERRED TO THE OFFICE AND BE SENT HOME.
When a student is
sent to the office to either take care of the violation on campus or off
campus, the result will be an unexcused absence for the class that is
missed. A student that chooses to leave
campus will have an unexcused absence while off campus. If the student does not come back to school
in due time, this is considered "skipping" and additional disciplinary action
will be taken. The discipline action
will be at the discretion of the principal.
